Put Down the Muffin is a modern-fusion/noise-rock band made up of four seasoned musicians from the Minneapolis area. Their sound is nearly indescribable, but draws from influences like Medeski, Martin and Wood, Galactic and Club Delf. Some of their songs are tripped-out instrumentals that weave in and out of time signatures, while others are gigantic rock tunes complete with three-part vocal harmonies. Either way, crowds get entranced by their extended noise-solos, funny antics, and vicious grooves. The band consists of Bruce Balgaard on fretless bass, Matt Patrick on guitars, Charlie Peterson on keyboards, and Zach Miller on drums. With these instruments (and a sampler under each arm), Put Down the Muffin creates a musical experience completely different than the last.

The band started in 1999 when Matt, Zach and Bruce decided to create for themselves a weekly outlet where, musically speaking, "anything goes." After a couple years of these weekly events of stirring together the sonic soup that is Put Down the Muffin, they decided to see how this strange, experimental music would work in a live setting. After a handful of successful shows in local bars, parties and garages in any neighborhood that would invite them, a following of devoted fans has developed. Fans that try their best not to miss a single show; as PDtM shows are never the same.

In early 2005, the Muffin brought a fourth member into Matt's basement, and the group took on a new dimension. Keyboardist Charlie Peterson put his two hands to work, allowing Matt the flexibility to expand his universe and put his energies completely into his guitar for the first time since the group formed.

Since then, the band has rocked venues such as the fabled Red Rooster in Aberdeen, SD; the dark depths of Mario's Kellar Bar in "NordEast" Minneapolis; the cozy Bordertown Coffee on the UofM campus; and even opening for Josh Aran at Minneapolis' Fine Line.
